The Customer Service Center for the City of Murphy is committed to delivering superior customer service that meets the needs of our residents, business owners, and others with unsurpassed professionalism, politeness, and promptness. Our Customer Service Center is uniquely positioned to handle a variety of demands including but not limited to building projects, water, sewer, and solid waste issues. This allows our department to be the center of your customer service needs.
The Customer Service Center manages the city's billing for water and wastewater, recycling and trash service, building projects, commercial and residential permits, and inspections requests. We are here to help with new accounts, transfers, disconnect, reconnect, billing, and payments. We also handle all customer inquiries regarding trash and recycling services. Our goal is to serve our citizens with unsurpassed professionalism, politeness, and promptness.
The Customer Service Department handles:
- Alarm Permit application
- Building inspections
- Residential and commercial permits
- Progressive Waste Solutions (garbage and recycling)
Per City of Murphy, Texas Fee Schedule Ordinance 09-10-817, residential home owners and businesses alarms are required to obtain a permit from the City of Murphy. Permits must be on file, regardless of the monitoring agency. All fees are collected on the City of Murphy utility bill monthly.
The City of Murphy’s False Alarm Ordinance was instituted to assist in providing a safer environment for everyone and requires owners of monitored security systems to register their system with the city. An alarm permit is required of all monitored alarm systems within the City of Murphy.
Registering your system by purchasing the alarm permit does not relieve you of your responsibility to properly maintain and use of your alarm system. This permit does provide you with three, no fine false alarms, in a rolling twelve month period. Three or more false alarms, within a rolling 12-month period could result in fines.
For new residents or business owners please complete Alarm Permit Application form and submit it via mail, faxed, email or turned in at the Customer Service Department.

The month your alarm is up for permit renewal, a $25 annual renewal fee will automatically be assessed and billed on your monthly utility billing statement account with the City of Murphy. If you have any changes to your original permit application on file with the city, then a new alarm permit application will need to be completed otherwise, there is no need to fill out an application every year. Renewal applications are only needed if any information needs to be updated with the city such as contacts, changes in alarm company information, etc.
Commercial Business Renewals
The month your alarm is up for renewal, a $50 annual renewal fee will automatically be assessed and billed on your monthly utility billing statement account with the City of Murphy. If your business does not have a utility account with the City of Murphy in your name then it will be your responsibility to make sure to pay the necessary annual fee to the Customer Service Department. If you have any changes to your original permit application on file with the City, then a new alarm permit application will need to be completed otherwise, there is no need to fill out an application every year. Renewal applications are only needed if any information needs to be updated with the City such as contacts, changes in alarm company information, etc.

Electronic Payment Notice
Effective October 1, 2011, when customers provide the City of Murphy with a check as payment, you authorize the city to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account. For inquiries, call Customer Service at 972-468-4100.

For Your Convenience
A drive-up payment drop box located by City Hall, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also pay your water bill online, by automatic ACH bank draft or credit card draft (download form). Payments can be made by Visa, Master Card, cash, check or money order.
