Emergency Notification System

The City of Murphy has instituted the CodeRED® Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of the city in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. The system is capable of dialing up to 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

Examples of Usage

Examples of times when the CodeRED® system could be utilized:
  • Bomb threat
  • Chemical spill or gas leak
  • Drinking water contamination
  • Fires or floods
  • Hostage situation
  • Missing person
  • Other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety

How to Sign Up

No one should automatically assume their phone number is already included in the CodeRED® system. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, or who use a cellular phone as their home phone.Residents who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database. For residents who have caller ID services, the incoming CodeRED® Notification phone number will be displayed as (866) 419-5000.

Note: No alerts will be posted on this site. You must sign up on the CodeRED® website to take advantage of this free service. The information obtained will only be used for emergency notification purposes. For more information please call (972) 468-4200.
