First public outreach meeting set for Waters Edge Park
More such meetings are planned for future projects
MURPHY (June 25, 2018) Soliciting, listening to, recording and incorporating resident and user preferences on playground equipment and amenities at the soon-to-be-improved Waters Edge Park are on the agenda for a public outreach meeting set for Saturday, June 30.
“We’re looking for input from the people who will be using the park and the new playground,” says Ken Lee, Project Manager for the 2017 Capital Improvement Projects Bond Program. “This opportunity for the public to share their preferences is a way for us to ensure that we are providing the kind of amenities people want and will use.”
The public outreach meeting will be held at the Waters Edge Park, a linear park along Creekside Drive, hugging the east side of Maxwell Creek. Attendees should look for a City of Murphy vehicle along the park’s length to identify the meeting location. Discussion will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until all attendees share their ideas and have their questions answered.
A City staffer will record each person’s input and will maintain an accurate recording of comments and questions. Park planners will use that information, along with input from park designers and equipment providers, in developing the final list of amenities and construction details.
“The conversations with residents and park patrons is critically important,” said Lee. “For example, if there is a preference for equipment designed for certain age groups or for special needs users or for a specific thematic approach, we want to know that. That kind of information is essential in ensuring that our plans closely match the stated needs and desires of the user community where possible.”
This is the first of a number of public outreach meetings that administrators of the 2017 Capital Improvement Projects Bond Program have planned. Other meetings will be scheduled at different times and locations to gather citizen input on other projects.
