Christmas in the Park Trail of Lights welcomes holidays

MURPHY (November 20, 2020) The City of Murphy Special Events staff has partnered with CoServ, an electric co-operative and gas company, in presenting this year’s Christmas holiday spectacular, modified to limit contact and comply with assembly restrictions.

Called Christmas in the Park Trail of Lights Presented by CoServ, the in-car drive-through event occurs on the evenings of Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. along the Murphy City Hall throughways.

The trail will feature an array of light displays, collection boxes for the Murphy Fire Department’s Toy Drive, a waiving Santa Claus, and a large mailbox to drop off letters to Santa.

The annual Murphy Fire Department Toy Drive, which collects toys for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, will be accepting new, unwrapped toys. Since no one will be allowed to exit their vehicles, the toys must be handed through the car window. Alternatively, toy donations may be dropped off at the Murphy Fire Department entry foyer between now and Dec. 6.

Letters to Santa will be collected at the end of the route. A Santa letter is available for downloading at https://www.murphytx.org/DocumentCenter/View/6503/Letter-to-Santa?bidId=. Copies are available at the Murphy Community Center, and of course, homemade letters are welcome.

To accommodate the two-evening event in a safe and orderly manner, tickets for each evening are required. Tickets are free and cover all the occupants of one vehicle. Vehicles attending must be inside the PSA parking lot before 9 p.m. on their specific date to continue into the event.

Tickets for Friday’s event can be obtained here: https://tinyurl.com/y3r8ye2y. Tickets for Saturday’s event can be obtained here: https://tinyurl.com/y2uyxcrg. Officials emphasize that only 500 tickets will be distributed for each evening, and are encouraging attendees to choose Saturday, as Friday may be particularly busy.

At 5:15 p.m. the left southbound lane on North Murphy Road from the traffic light at Spring Ridge Drive to the north PSA entrance will be a left turn only into PSA. The right northbound lane on North Murphy Road will be closed at City Hall circle and become an exit only lane for the event and a detour entry for the residents of the Willow Wood neighborhood. Barricades and police officers will mark the affected lanes.

Residents and visitors who do not attend the Trail of Lights event may still drive through and enjoy the light display every evening from Dec. 6 until Dec. 27.
