Murphy Maize Days CORNival returns for 13th year

MURPHY (August 1, 2022) Enthusiastic anticipation is beginning to build in Murphy and the surrounding areas as the 13th Annual Murphy Maize Days is gearing up for its one-day festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The fun and frivolity begin at noon at Murphy Central Park, 550 North Murphy Road, and will conclude with the traditional fireworks display ending at 9:45 p.m.

As usual, the event is free to attend and ample parking is available at Tom Kimbrough stadium, a half-block north of the venue. Free shuttling to and from the parking area will be provided throughout the day and evening.

“This year we are welcoming 15 sponsors, the highest number in the event’s 13-year history,” says Special Event Coordinator Ashley Hudson. “We are always very appreciative of the sponsors and their commitment to our community.”

Among the record-breaking number of sponsors is Methodist Richardson Medical Center, a partner of Murphy Maize Days for more than a decade. In addition, Caliber Auto Care is sponsoring the Touch-A-Truck attraction, and Plano Sports Authority is sponsoring the volunteer T-shirts. Another returning sponsor this year is Farmers Electric Cooperative.

“All of our sponsors, whether they’ve been with us for years, or are new to us, are very much appreciated,” said Hudson. “We have set aside a Sponsors Row inside the Maize Market area from noon to 7 p.m. to allow our patrons to thank them personally.”

This year’s event will feature some new attractions, and at the same time, some of the attendees’ favorites have been renewed, revamped, and renamed. For example, the Kid Zone, always one of the more popular features, is now called Maize Midway and includes some new thrills on five carnival rides, Jacob’s Ladder, Strikers, and the Grand Carnival Tent with eight different games to play that include exciting prizes. It’s open from noon to 7 p.m.

Within the Maize Midway, the Kids’ Midway will include face-painting, and a number of fun carnival games. For the tiny tots, a Preschool Midway will have age-appropriate games and entertainment.

As if that was not enough, Ninja Nation will challenge participants with a warped climbing wall and obstacle course. It operates from noon to 5 p.m. A new trackless train will shuffle attendees around the area and loop back to an eye-dropping train depot.

“Food is an important part of the day’s event as well, and we have a great lineup of food vendors and food trucks,” said Hudson.
