RESIDENTIAL ACCESSORY BUILDING PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
CITY OF MURPHY BUILDING INSPECTION DEPARTMENT
Accessory buildings include but are not limited to an arbor, pergola, gazebo, shade structure, private garage, carport, tool shed, greenhouse, workshop, storage building.
Drawings Submittal: Three (3) copies of complete set of drawings are required for plan review. Drawings must be submitted along with a completed permit application form.
Necessary Drawings: The following is a general outline of drawings necessary for plan review. (Building Inspection may request additional information if necessary)
Site Plan must include all dimensions (including location of the accessory building in reference to property lines and adjacent structures. All easements shall be shown on the plot plan. scale: 1” = 20’-0)

Exterior elevations.
NOTE:
Drawings must be drawn to scale, dimensioned and of sufficient clarity.
If structure is NOT a prefab building, then detailed drawings showing type, size, dimensioned and span of lumber are required.
Min. 10’ setback from all side property lines. Corner lots require 15’ adjacent to a side street.
Rear setbacks vary depending on the distance of the accessory building to the house, and the subdivisions. When located less than 10’ from the house, the accessory building requires the same minimum setback as the house. When located 10’ or greater from the house, the Aviary, Eagle Glen, Maxwell Creek, Timbers, and Windy Hill Farms phases 2 through 5 all require 15’ to the rear property line, while all other subdivisions require 10’ to the rear property line.
Accessory buildings not exceeding 120 square feet in floor area, a total ridge height not exceeding 8.5’, and screened from the adjacent lot by an 8’ fence, may have side and rear setbacks of 4’. Corner lots require 15’ adjacent to a side street. Accessory buildings are required to be located 10’ or greater from the house.
Electrical and plumbing plans and details, if included in the project.
Accessory buildings may not be located in the front yard or in any easement.
The following subdivisions are planned developments which require 75% masonry exterior construction, not including doors and windows. Rolling Ridge, Ranch, Gables, and Windy Hill Farms phases 2 through 5.

No more than two accessory buildings are permitted on any residential or agricultural lot.
