General Comments and Information For
New Commercial Building Permits

CITY OF MURPHY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

  1. Building permit application and related drawings are submitted to Customer Service, located in Suite 144, for processing and approval.
  2. Copies of the documents are routed internally to the Health Department if the project has food service or potentially hazardous chemicals.
  3. Building Code and MEP plan review takes place simultaneously while the site plan is reviewed by Planning/Engineering and Public Works, as well as plans requiring Fire and Health review and approval. Fire sprinkler plans may be a deferred submittal.
  4. A pre-construction meeting is required for Public Works to discuss construction and inspection processes. General contractor, utility contractor, engineer, owners, etc. are all encouraged to attend. The pre-construction meeting may also include building inspection information. Please call 972-468-4024 to schedule the meeting.
  5. The pre-construction meeting may be scheduled after the building inspection plan review is complete and plans approved, the site plan and Civils are approved by Planning/Engineering, Public Works and the permit is ready to be issued. If the project requires a Health review, a release from Health is also required prior to issuing the permit. 
  6. All fees must be paid prior to issuing the permit. Fees include but may not be limited to impact fees, meter fees, meter deposits, sewer connect fees and 4% utility/public improvements.
  7. The general contractor and MEP sub-contractors shall be registered with the Community Development Customer Service and be listed on the permit.
  8. A list of required inspections specific to the project will be printed and attached to the permit. Inspections for other departments are included and are part of the required inspections list.
  9. All inspections, not relating to the Community Development building inspections, that are for other departments such as Health, Fire, Landscape and the final Public Works inspection must be scheduled with Customer Service, 972-468-4050. Final approval and the Certificate of Occupancy will be given after all inspections approvals are received.
  10. Fire lanes and fire hydrants shall be installed, operational and approved by the Fire Department prior to vertical construction of the building.
