A person may claim an exemption for Jury Duty if that person:
If over 70 years of age;
Has legal custody of a child/children younger than 10 years of age and serving on the jury required leaving the child or children without adequate supervision;
Is a student of a public or secondary school;
Is a person enrolled and in actual attendance at an institution of higher education;
Is an officer or an employee of the Senate, the House of Representatives, or any department, commission, board, office or other agency in the legislative branch of the State government;
Has served as a petit juror in county court during the 24 month period preceding the appearance date;
Is the primary caretaker of a person who is an invalid, unable to care for him/herself;
Is a member of the United States military forces serving on active duty and deployed to a location away from the person’s home station and out of the person’s county or residence;
Is not a citizen of the United States or a resident of the City of Murphy.
If you qualify and wish to claim your exemption, you must send the signed and completed juror exemption form along with proof (if possible) to the City of Murphy Municipal Court, 206 N. Murphy Road, Murphy, Texas 75094.
