Pleas:

• A plea must be entered for each charge either in writing or in open Court before the Judge
• The following pleas may be entered:

• No Contest (Nolo Contendere) or Guilty – Either plea is acceptable for payment of fines, requests for a driving safety course or deferred disposition or requests for dismissal of a violation.  A plea of No Contest (or Nolo Contendere) means you are not contesting the State’s charges against you and cannot be used against you in a civil suite for damages.

• Not Guilty – This plea will result in a trial either before a Judge or Jury. You may decide if you want to employ an attorney to represent you at trial or you may defend yourself.  All proceedings will be conducted according to the rules of criminal procedure and rules of evidence.  You are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

You must contact the Court in person or in writing on or before the original appearance date on your citation by either paying your fine or requesting an option.  Should you not take care of this business prior to your due date, fines will increase and warrants of arrest will be issued.
