Maize Days - Sept 25th. & 26th.
Murphy’s new annual festival, Murphy Maize Days, will be held September 25th and 26th, 2009. After the success of the 50th Anniversary Celebration, the City began a mission to create a unique festival for the area that celebrates the history of the community and provides an old-fashioned day of fun for everyone! Before economic growth and new businesses were constructed, many of the agricultural land in Murphy was filled with field corn. The Community Events Committee, appointed by City Council and charged with organizing community events, took off with the idea of a corn festival, and Murphy Maize Days was born! The festival will include concerts, a car show, kids activities, food, and fireworks. The City also plans to develop a walking maze as part of this event in the future. Many festival activities will be themed around “maize” or “corn”, such as a Corn on the Cob eating contest, Corn Cook-off, Corny Joke Contest, and of course, food such as corny dogs, kettle corn, roasted corn, popcorn…Murphy Maize Days is sponsored by the 4B Murphy Community Development Corporation.
