Mission Statement
We the officers and firefighters of the Murphy Fire Rescue Department are committed to providing the best possible fire and emergency services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Murphy through a proactive approach to fire prevention, emergency medical services, and rescue and to be the benchmark by which other departments measure themselves.

The Murphy Fire Rescue Department is a full service municipally supported organization. Our current ISO rating for insurance purposes is 4. We respond to over 400 emergency calls for service each year. There has been a steady activity increase of approximately 25-35% each year since 2000. Fire loss has been held to minimal levels despite the addition of several hundred new buildings, partly due to inspections and enforcement. The department added staff and equipment throughout the year to better serve the community. Construction is in progress for a new fire station as part of the city municipal complex.

The department is staffed by 5 Full-time firefighters, 16 part-time paid firefighters, and 20 volunteer firefighters. All paid personnel are certified firefighters through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and most of the volunteers are certified by the TCFP or the State Fireman’s and Fire Marshal ’s Association. Most members are Paramedics or Emergency Medical Technicians.

Firefighters regularly check construction sites for proper fuel storage and access. The on-duty firefighters maintain the apparatus and equipment readiness. They have a daily routine that includes the inspection of all fire apparatus and equipment. Records are maintained in accordance with state requirements. All fire calls are reviewed for quality assurance. Run reports are sent to the state under the Texas Fire Incident Reporting System. Emergency medical calls are reviewed by the department quality assurance officer to maintain a high level of competency among our members. Every paid firefighter completes a minimum of 1 hour of continuing education training each 12 hour shift worked. All volunteers participate in 2 hour Thursday evening training sessions.

If your 911 call goes to the wrong agency immediately notify the call taker that you are a resident of Murphy and when the fire department arrives inform the officer in charge of the misrouted 911. We can get 911 service corrected if we are informed immediately. The business line will go to a voice mail if not answered. Call 911 for immediate assistance. City hall does not have the ability to dispatch fire apparatus.
