FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC - Fire Department

The City of Murphy is now accepting applications for full-time firefighter/paramedic with the Murphy Fire Department in order to create an eligibility list.

Applicants will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Must be currently certified as a Firefighter with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection at the time of job offer.
  • Must be currently certified as an EMT-Paramedic with the Texas Department of State Health Services at the time of job offer. 
  • Must have a valid Texas Class B driver’s license within date of hire. 

 

Salary range:      $16.39/hour based on 2,912 work hours per year ($47,727 per year)

 

City application is required for consideration.

If selected for further evaluation, individuals will be required to complete a written exam followed by a physical performance evaluation, polygraph and oral boards. Successful completion of each phase is required to move forward in the process.

THE WRITTEN EXAM WILL BE AT 8AM, SATURDAY, JULY 31. A study guide will be provided to every eligible candidate. Candidates eligible to sit for the exam will be notified by HR.

 

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS-

  • Charged or convicted of a Driving under the Influence (DUI) within the past five (5) years.
  • Usage of illegal drugs/substances within the previous seven (7) years.
  • Illegal use of marijuana within the previous three (3) years.
  • Candidates who have violations exceeding three (3) events (moving violations or preventable accidents) in the preceding thirty-six (36) months will be temporarily disqualified until the standard has been met.
  • Candidates who have received a reckless driving or similar conviction(s) within the preceding sixty (60) months will be temporarily disqualified until the standard has been met.
