City of Murphy Seeking Board & Commission Applicants
Murphy, TX – The City is now accepting applications for volunteers who are interested in serving on one of the City’s Boards or Commissions. Applications are accepted year-round, but in order to be eligible for the 2009 appointment process, applications must be received by May 31, 2009. Applications are kept on file for one year. An applicant reception will be scheduled at a later date. Interviews will be conducted by members of the City Council during the month of June with appointments being made in late June or at the first Council meeting in July.
Applications are available on the City’s website, at City Hall, or via email from the City Secretary. The link to the application is http://www.murphytx.org/cityhall/bandc.asp. Applicants should be qualified voters of the City of Murphy. Additional qualifications may apply depending on the specific board. Charter Review Commission
The City of Murphy adopted its Home Rule Charter on February 7, 2004. Pursuant to Section 11.07 of the Charter, the City Council shall appoint a Charter Review Commission at least once every six years. The Charter Review Commission shall consist of eleven citizens of the City and shall serve a term for not more than six months. At the conclusion of the term, the Commission shall present a report to the City Council. The City Council would like to appoint a Charter Review Commission in June, 2009 and consider recommendations from the Commission in January. If Charter amendments are recommended, those amendments would be submitted to citizens on the May, 2010 ballot.
The scope of the Charter Review Commission shall be to inquire into the operation of the City government under the Charter and determine whether any provisions require revision. This process may involve public hearings as well as input from City Council and City Staff. The Commission will report its findings and propose recommendations to ensure compliance with the Charter to the City Council.
