City of Murphy
Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste Rate Changes Effective April 1, 2009
Murphy City
Council adopted Ordinance 09-03-787 at the March 2, 2009 Council Meeting
to adjust the rates on various services as outlined below effective April 1,
2009 (will appear on bills received in May for April services). In October
2008, The City of Murphy engaged Water Resources Management, L.P. to prepare water,
wastewater and solid waste disposal rate study which includes a long-term
financial plan. The Rate Study has been completed and was presented to City
Council with recommendations of rate adjustments. These rate adjustments are
needed to maintain the current water and waste water systems and to provide for
capital improvements. The rate changes also reflect the higher costs to the
City from our treated water source, North Texas Municipal Water District. Solid
waste rates were adjusted in order to cover the cost of solid waste collection. For more information call the Customer Service
Department at 972-468-4100.

Volumetric rate (per 1,000
gallons) based on 3-month (November, January and February) winter average of
water usage for Residential only.
Murphy
will begin to use a winter averaging for the purpose of calculating sewer
charges on your utility bill. The new sewer charges will be based on the water
consumption average for three months (November,
January and February). Average consumption is applied against current
sewer rates and becomes your constant sewer charge for 12 months beginning
April 1, 2009.
The
monthly sewer charges will be based on the average water usages for the months
of November, January and February. See example below:
