The Murphy Police Department is participating in the Texas Department of Public Safety H.E.A.T. Program (Help End Auto Theft). This is a statewide vehicle registration program administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety that helps law enforcement officials identify stolen vehicles.
Any vehicle owner in Texas can obtain decals for his/her car or truck that authorizes law enforcement officers to stop the vehicle and verify ownership, between 1:00a.m. and 5:00a.m., anywhere in Texas, with additional protection when the vehicle is being driven into Mexico. The vehicle registration is also entered into the Texas Crime Information Center as a H.E.A.T. registered vehicle which allows for 24 hour access by law enforcement agencies across the state. There are 2 small decals that are also placed on the registered vehicle.
This program allows law enforcement officers to stop H.E.A.T. registered vehicles between the times of 1:00a.m. and 5:00a.m. in order to verify ownership of the vehicle to ensure that it is not stolen.
Once a vehicle is registered, it remains in the computer system for (4) four years, or until a request to have it removed is made by the vehicle owner. The H.E.A.T. registration can be renewed every (4) four years.
To register your vehicle online go to H.E.A.T's website. Individuals without internet access can register vehicles by contacting Officer Joe Wetzel in the Traffic Division at 972-468-4272. You may also contact him via email with additional questions.
