Items such as hazardous waste, construction/building/demolition material, engines, tires, oil, antifreeze, paint, chemicals, appliances that contain Freon that have not had Freon removed and/or do not have proper certification attached cannot be placed in poly cart. Bins containing any of these items will not be collected.
Damaged carts should be reported to the Water Department at 972-468-4100 for a replacement.
The City of Murphy has 2 bulk pickup dates per year, one in April and one in October. Waste Management asks that you please have all items out by your curb the night before your scheduled pick up date. They begin to pick up very early on those mornings and this will ensure that your items are not missed. On Bulk Pickup day you may place out as many items as you wish to be picked up.
Waste Management has set some guidelines that might be helpful to you:
• Residents may set out appliances including refrigerators. Any item that contains Freon must have the Freon removed by a licensed air conditioner technician. They will provide you with a receipt and that receipt must be taped on the item in order for it to be removed. Residents should also be reminded the doors should be removed in such a way that neither children nor animals can enter the refrigerator and inadvertently close themselves in the unit.
• All riding lawn mowers and other motorized yard tools must have all gasoline and oil removed.
• If you wish to set out brush it must be cut into 3 to 4 foot long pieces and no larger then 6 inches in diameter and bundled and tied by the curb. The pile should be no larger then 4 feet long and no taller then 3 feet high. Waste Management asks that if you set out piles of brush you keep it separate from other trash because it goes to a separate facility.
• Any pieces of metal placed by the curb must be able to fit into the trash truck. The pieces should be no longer then 6 feet long.
• Paint cans still containing wet paint cannot be put out. However, if leftover paint is allowed to dry solid in the can, it is considered a solid waste and therefore can be picked up.
*Waste Management will not collect construction material or hazardous material at any time.*

Alkaline Batteries, cylinder shaped batteries used in flashlights and toys have been much safer since 1992. Wrap them in a plastic bag and dispose of them with your regular trash.
Rechargeable Batteries, found in cell phones, tools, and some toys, contain heavy metals such as nickel, cadmium, lithium and lead which are quite toxic. Most can be recycled by returning them to the store where they were purchased or you can drop them off at Lowe's Home Improvement stores. In addition, Batteries Plus located at 1725 N. Central Expressway, Suite 101, Plano (near Brook Mays on the west side); 972-423-6100 will take all rechargeable batteries.
Button Cell Batteries, found in watches and hearing aids, contain mercury, silver, cadmium, lithium or other heavy metals. They are recycled to reclaim the valuable material and decrease the hazard to the environment. Many shops that replace watch and hearing aid batteries will accept your batteries for recycling at no charge.
