Mission Statement

The Customer Service Center for the City of Murphy is committed to delivering superior customer service that meets the needs of our residents, business owners, and others with unsurpassed professionalism, politeness, and promptness. Our Customer Service Center is uniquely positioned to handle a variety of demands including but not limited to building projects, water, sewer and solid waste issues. This allows our department to be the center of your customer service needs.

The Customer Service Department manages the following:
Utility Billing/Garbage
Permitting Residential/ Commercial
Billing of Alarm Permits

One of the many responsibilities of the Customer Service Department is managing the C ity's billing for water, wastewater, and recycling and trash service. Responsibilities include establishing new accounts, finaled accounts, processing and mailing of all bills, processing of all payments, customer inquiries, and providing trash and recycling service information to new and existing customers.

The City of Murphy supplies water to approximately   5,500 households. The City of Murphy receives its water supply from North Texas Municipal Water District, which is a treated water source. The North Texas Municipal Water District uses surface water from three sources: Lake Lavon, Lake Chapman, and Lake Texoma. The surface water supply is withdrawn from Lake Lavon via pumping stations and piped into one of the three water treatment plants located in Wylie. After being treated, water is then stored in three ground storage tanks and one elevated storage tank, which is owned and operated by the City of Murphy water utilities.

A diesel generator backup power supply has been installed to ensure that the newly renovated and updated pumping capacity will have power available even through an extended power outage from the TXU supply lines. The city’s water pressure is about 60 to 70 PSI.

Summer sometimes brings a change of odor and flavor in the public water supply. This is not a health hazard. Fact sheet on Taste and Odor.

The City has a complete sewer system with capacity expanded by tying in a 30 inch line with the Wylie sewage treatment plant. Engineering studies have been contracted for a joint project with City of Wylie to tie in with the Muddy Creek Regional Waste Water Treatment Facility.
