The Utility Billing Office manages the city's billing for water, wastewater, recycling and trash service. Responsibilities include establishing new accounts, finaled accounts, processing and mailing of all bills, processing of all payments, customer inquiries, and providing trash and recycling service information to new customers.

The City of Murphy purchases water from North Texas Municipal Water District. With two large capacity supply lines passing through the city, sufficient water for the foreseeable future is assured. A water tower with 1 million gallons capacity has been installed on Betsy Lane in the northern part of the city.

A diesel generator backup power supply has been installed to ensure that the newly renovated and updated pumping capacity will have power available even through an extended power outage from the TXU supply lines.

Summer sometimes brings a change of odor and flavor in the public water supply. This is not a health hazard. Fact sheet on Taste and Odor.

The City of Murphy supplies water to approximately 4400 households. The water department has 3 water storage tanks including 1,000,000 gallon ground storage tank, a ground storage tank holding 250,000 gallons, and an elevated tank holding 1,000,000 gallons. Currently under construction a 2,000,000 gallon ground storage tank is in the process estimated completion date is August 2006. The city’s water pressure is about 60 to 70 PSI.

The city has a complete sewer system with capacity expanded by tying in a 30 inch line with the Wylie sewage treatment plant. Engineering studies have been contracted for a joint project with City of Wylie to tie in with the Muddy Creek Regional Waste Water Treatment Facility.
