The mission of the Building Inspection Division is to ensure the safety and welfare of the general public by enforcing building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical code regulations within the City of Murphy.
Permits ensure the proposed construction meets zoning as well as adopted building codes. When construction has begun, it is your responsibility to schedule needed inspections as indicated by the Building Inspection Department. Permits and inspections help ensure safe construction with sound materials. Applications must be made and permits issued prior to beginning work.
Inspections called in before 3 p.m. will go out the next business day, excluding holidays.
All inspections that require entering an occupied home are temporarily suspended until further notice. Permits affected by this temporary suspension will remain open and valid until the required inspection can be completed at a later date. The Inspection Line is 972-468-4050. Registered contractors can create an online account to schedule inspections.
If cancelling an inspection, you must call 972-468-4100 before 9:00 a.m. and speak to a live person. Any cancellations left on the voicemail will still go out for inspection and could result in fees being charged.
Same-day inspections/re-inspections are subject to an additional fee. This includes inspections called in after 3 p.m. cut-off time. Payment is due prior to inspection request being made.
