City waives bulk trash maximum for storm related debris.

MURPHY, Texas (May 29, 2024) - The recent storms that impacted the DFW area caused a considerable amount of damage, specifically to trees in Murphy. As a way to help our residents recover, the city will be waiving the 4 cubic yard maximum  for a special storm debris collection. Please place storm debris out for collection by 7am on Monday, June 3, 2024. A special unit will begin collecting piles larger than 4 cubic yards on Monday, June 3rd. Regular trash, recycle and smaller bulk / storm debris (4 cubic yards and under) will be picked up as normal on your regular collection day.

As many cities in our area require, branches and limbs are still required to be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled. Republic Services, Murphy’s solid waste contractor, requires the 4-foot limit in order for debris to safely fit into the collection truck, and bundling in order for piles to be manageable for collection workers.

“Mother nature sometimes causes us to be caught off guard, but we (the city of Murphy) want to help ease the burden of potential extra costs and inconvenience related to exceeding the weekly bulk limit”, stated Aretha L. Adams, City Manager.

As a friendly reminder, Murphy residents receive weekly trash, recycle and bulk collection (4-cubic yards). What is 4-cubic yards? It’s about the equivalent of a regular sized truck bed.

Kindly note, this exemption is only for storm related debris. Please ensure clear accessibility to large piles.  Be sure to follow @cityofmurphy for more updates!
