The City of Murphy uses a winter averaging method for calculating the residential monthly sewer charge. This is a common method used by municipalities across the state to provide an equitable fee to residential customers.
This method averages the water used during November, January, and February to calculate the sewer charges for the following year. New calculations take effect each year on the April billing statements.
New Customers who have yet to establish a winter average will be charged based on the city average use, which is recalculated annually. Once customers have established a winter average, the fee will be calculated based on their actual winter average consumption.
